Stakeholders

In addition to Network Rail, a key stakeholder on this project was local residents. We worked in close collaboration with the client’s project team to liaise with the local community throughout the project. This included introductory and regular letter drops and daily site-level dialogue with residents. In addition, we also attended a local primary school to deliver two talks related to construction site hazards, including hosting a design a size health and safety poster competition, with the winning student’s design printed and displayed on site. On project completion, we added over £210,000 of social value including community engagement and use of local supply chain.

Challenges and Solutions

The project involved works adjacent and over live Network Rail infrastructure. C.R. Reynolds Limited utilised our rail experience to continually engage with Network Rail, ensuring that all relevant Network Rail standards were adhered to in terms of project delivery, permanent, and temporary works design. We also ensured that relevant project information was available to Network Rail for review and approval in a timely manner to gain necessary approvals to meet programme.

A further challenge on the project was overcoming unanticipated delays in the bridge manufacturing process. On realisation that a potential delay was impending, C.R. Reynolds Limited swiftly acted to re-programme the works and provide additional inhouse resource to the project. This process enabled us to complete elements of the work that were programmed after bridge installation before the bridge was lifted into position. This prompt action ensured we were able to complete the project in a timely manner and meet the planned short night rail track possession to maximise safety and minimise disruption.

Result

We successfully completed this bridge installation project on time, within budget, and to a high quality standard, with excellent feedback received form the client and local people.

The Difference We Made

Installation of this bridge will support ‘active travel’ in the region, whilst providing residents with a safe pedestrian and cycle route across busy railway lines for years to come.
